Paul Rand

In the book, I quote Paul Rand: “Visual communications of any kind, whether persuasive or informative, from billboards to birth announcements, should be seen as the embodiment of form and function: the integration of the beautiful and the useful.” I love that: it’s not only about how it looks, or how it works, but about how it looks and works together. The book contains some great work by Rand: the cover for his book Thoughts on Design, corporate identity manuals for IBM and Westinghouse, a classic cover for Direction magazine, and some fun posters.
